Dominican Republic Volunteer Visits Greenhouses
This past week the Dominican Republic welcomed a new volunteer, George Matthew Tokar. The focus of Matt's trip is to follow up on past assignments to provide insight in the area of post- harvesting and cold- chain management.
He will be working with ADESJO, Fundacion Sur Futuro Inc. and two other organizations. Matt will provide training on the importance of having packing plants, and will develop an assessment study of the current situation on refrigeration after harvesting.

Hello,
ReplyDeleteMy name is Michael Dominguez and I am very intersted in building a greenhouse in the northeaster region of the Dominican Republic. Currently my family owns approximately 250 acres of very fertile land, a well (including pumps), ideal for cultivating bell peppers.
I have found it very difficult to find a reputable greenhouse supplier/vendor in the DR. There are plenty in the US but overhead of shipping cost is quite high and would not make much sense business wise, especially when starting out. My goal is to establish a family run business by building as many greenhouses as possible. Some financing will be required as this would be a joint venture between myself and relatives.
Any guidance/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Respectfully,
MD
Hello Michael,
DeleteOur Dominican field staff would know more information than we would. They might be able to give you some names of local, or at least Caribbean if there are no local, suppliers or companies in this business. The location of the supplier might also depend on what type of greenhouse or supplies you are seeking. Our coordinator in the DR is Rafael Ledesma, and his email address is rrafaelschoowe@hotmail.com.
All the best,
Meghan
Hello Michael,
DeleteMeghan is right in that it will depend very much on the type of greenhouse you are looking for. There are many different styles and therefore also many different price ranges. If you like, have a look at our website www.paulboers.com. We are developing an export system to the Dominican republic and there are also financing options available through our export partners here in Canada that I can give you more information on. Myself and a few of my colleagues have been in the Dominican Republic and there is much opportunity for greenhouse production. We have a very experienced staff that can help you and your family with your plan. My email address is wernher@paulboers.com and feel free to contact me if you have more questions.
